INNOVATION
At Malai we are interested in working exclusively with bio-based materials that are locally sourced, biodegradable, non toxic and vegan. Our base material is Bacterial Cellulose - a fermented material produced from water from mature coconuts.
        COMMUNITY
We work with coconut processing units across South India repurposing their coconut water waste into nutrient for bacteria that ferments cellulose for us. We then employ maker and artisan communities to produce products from the materials we develop.

      DESIGN
We believe a good design is about discovering and materializing what constitutes a good relationship between people, things and environment. We develop our material in fully circular systems with possiblity of repair, recycling and earth friendly disposal.
