Kannadipaaya mats are traditionally woven from a specific species of bamboo growing in hills of western ghats by native communities still living in deep forests. Kannadipaaya literally translates to “mirror mat” and it is because of the specific patters that mirrors the surface of the bamboo slivers. Historically it was used by different communities in different ways - omnipresent at all important rituals and functions, often given to royalty as a gift. 
We asked the artisans united under Forest Post - Kerala based initiative focusing on creating value added products from forest produce to combine strips of Malai Biocomposite with the bamboo. The collaboration resulted in unique pieces each different and special.
