We did it! Malai presented at first ever virtual Lakme Fashion Week :-)

At the beginning of this month we announced we would be presenting a collection of accessories during the first ever virtual edition of Lakme Fashion Week as winners of Circular Design Challenge award.

Organising a fashion week in the midst of a pandemic is not an easy task – that’s for sure. The organisation team has very creatively put together a virtual platform for all the designers and brands to display their work. And you know what? Yeeesss – some of the momentum might have been lost because everyone watched from their homes but we have to admit we rather enjoyed this. The levels of stress were considerably lower on our end since we didn’t have to do a live show and we were also able to curate the show to a great extend due to its digital format. So yes! We rather enjoyed it 🙂

We have prepared a collection of 17 looks with a focus on accessories made from our biocomposite materials. The main inspiration for the collection has been rich biodiversity found on the coast of Malabar and this has also prompted us to name the collection – MALABARICUS.

We have worked with traditional handloom “mundu” cloths made in Kerala, developed original cyanotype prints using local flora, used natural dyes extensively and we think that in spite of all the odds surrounding the times when the collection was being prepared, we did rather well 🙂

We hope you too will enjoy seeing what we prepared please feel free to watch the video from our show on instagram profile of @lakmefashionweek and follow our instagram feed for all the looks @malai.biomaterials.
